Apple Picking Time
Went to Fishkill Farm this weekend and ate our way through the apple orchards. We took home 20 lbs of Macouns, Macintoshes and Spartans, and continued to eat our way through the weekend.

Ithaca is Gorges
This weekend I went up to Ithaca, New York for my cousin Rebecca's wedding! It was a beautiful wedding - absolutely perfect and you could really feel the love for Rebecca and Paul. Congratulations and welcome to the family, Paul!

Surprise! You're 30!
This weekend Abe and I drove down to Pennsylvania for a surprise 30th birthday party for our friend, Jon. His girlfriend, Katie, did an awesome job at arranging the surprise and Alex and Becca hosted the party at their house. We camped out in their yard just like we did for the 4th of July - except it was much colder. I slept with 2 sweatshirts, a hat, scarf, pj pants, and socks.
The best part of a surprise party is waiting for the surprisee to arrive. Lots of false alarms.

The florist accidentally sent this arrangement to Becca. My favorite part are the champagne grapes. They look like bath beads.

New York to Chicago to Cleveland to New York!
On Thursday night at 10:30pm Abe and I got into our rented Prius and hit the road. Destination: Chicago, Illinois for the Renegade Craft Fair.
We decided to drive overnight to avoid traffic, which was a pretty good idea, but maybe not the best idea. I drove for the first few hours and then Abe took over. From 2 to 6am we were able to pass the time by calling into our friends' radio show Night People on WFMU. If you click on that link you'll actually be able to list to the show and if you fast forwad to the last 30 minutes you can hear us get punchy and hilarious around 5:45am. It was decided that Abe would be the designated Mantlehand since he was going to be awake for a long time (we were about 400 miles from Chicago at this point), which means he would carry everything covered during the night into the day much like the person carrying the Olympic torch.
Somewhere in Ohio at 8:30am we stopped at a rest area and passed out for an hour. Then we got up and had McDonald's breakfast burritos and drove till we hit Chicago. This is when the rain started, and it didn't stop for 3 days.
We stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Arlington Heights, Illinois (20 miles outside of Chicago). It wasn't the most convenient hotel, but it was the cheapest and it was surprisingly nice. We were situated on a huge strip of fast food restaurants and discount big box stores. It was actually kind of fun but also gross.
Saturday we woke up and it was POURING rain - like out of control. I thought the Renegade Craft Fair would be shut down, but we drove into Wicker Park to check it out. Once we arrived the rain had subsided a little bit and we saw that everyone was setting up and people were out on the streets browsing the booths. Luckily we were able to set up the tent while the rain took a quick break.

Once we were set up the rain started to come back down in buckets - at least it kept us busy - there was always something to protect or dry or go get from the store. Abe is the most wonderful boyfriend in the entire world. He made countless trips to KMart, running through the rain, to pick up plastic sheeting, tarps, and a lantern.
By Saturday afternoon I was able to relax.
Sunday was more of the same! We had broken everything down the night before, which was a pain, but at least we didn't come back to a mess like this:
Abe had to go get the tarp so we could put it over the roof because the canopy was no longer water resistant.
The roof! The roof! The roof is not on fire! ...It's actually soaking wet.
However, by 4:15 pm the rain had stopped and - what's that? Sun? Really? Yes! It was sun!! We took off the tarps, and ever took off the canopy! The fair went until 10pm and the rest of the day was very enjoyable and we were even able to dry out a lot of our stuff before packing up.

Crazy times.
Monday morning we hit the road again and made our way back to New York City. When we got to Cleveland, Ohio Abe and I decided to get out of the car for a little while and see Cleveland - why not? We went to some park on Lake Erie. I'm kind of obsessed with the Great Lakes ever since I went to Minnesota.

We were leaving Cleveland and Abe saw the lights on at Jacobs Field because there was an Indians game going on. His goal is to see all the baseball stadiums in the US so I really couldn't deny him the chance the knock another off this list. We were able to get incredible seats for $6 each from some guy on the street. The stadium is fairly new and huge - and clean (I've only been to Fenway Park, Shea Stadium, and Yankee Stadium so this was kind of nuts to me). We stayed for 3 innings and then hit the road again.

Renegade Craft Fair : Chicago!
This week has been nuts-o for me (and Abe) as I am getting ready for the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago!
There is soooooo much to do to prepare the booth. I am also having a major malfunction with my car and need to replace the transmission, so the week has involved dealing with that pain and also finding an affordable rental car. I think I got a good deal on a Prius - which is very exciting. With my calculations what I will save on gas will pay for the rental. ... Let's just hope that all works out. I don't trust rental places until I have returned the car and have not been charged any hidden fees.
Anyway - here's my deal on the craft fair:

Labor Day Weekend 2008
Nothing like a long weekend to make the first week of non-summer seem extra depressing. Oh well, I am happy that this means we have fall weather ahead of us and can wear my new jacket!
Friday afternoon I had lunch with Siobhan and Meredith. Siobhan was in town for a few days from London. It was awesome to see her and drink rosé, but I wish we had more time together.
After lunch with Siobhan I scurried off to the 7 train to meet Abe. We were going to the U.S. Open! This is our second year going and we freaking love it. Who knew we would like watching tennis so much? We saw Andy Roddick play against Ernests Gulbis.

Saturday we drove up to Massachusetts and on the way I took Abe on a quick tour of UConn (my alma mater).
Saturday night we went to the Picadilly Pub on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. It was surprisingly good. Then we went over Dave & Brit's house and hung out with them and Dennis.

Sunday we drove into Boston and met up with Allyson. Allyson is the most wonderful person in the world and got her hands on 3 tickets to a Red Sox game!
This was Abe's first trip to Fenway so it was pretty exciting. It was also really awesome to spend the day with Allyson, who I don't get to see as often as I'd like. The Red Sox lost, but it was a really fun game.

Minnesota :: Thursday
Ah, Minnesota. It's a wonderful state. I flew into Minneapolis late Wednesday night and spent Thursday and Friday in the Twin Cities. On Saturday my sister and I drove up to Duluth, MN and communed with nature for a couple days. Then it was back to St. Paul Sunday night and I shipped off early Monday morning. Here are some highlights from my trip...I wish I was still there!
On Thursday and Friday I drove my sister to work at the University of Minnesota and then afterwards I would get an iced coffee. It was awesome cause it was cold pressed.
On Thursday I went to the American-Swedish Institute. There was an exhibit of all the Queen's ball gowns, which was kind of fun. It wasn't a mind blowing museum, but still neat.
The coolest thing was that the museum was a former residence and there were 11 porcelain stoves in the mansion that had been ordered from Sweden. I would love to have just one!
At the musuem I picked up some Swedish treats. I grew up eating Swedish pancakes - my next door neighbor's family is Swedish and whenever I would sleepover his house his mom would make them for us in the morning. And then I got this Swedish facial soap that is made with egg whites. I have been looking for something to spruce up my skin, but I hate chemical stuff from the drug store so I decided to give this soap a whirl. So far I love it.
Later in the day I went back to Como Park while I waited for Jaime to get off work. I got a little artsy.
I discovered empty snail shells all along the bank of the pond. At first it was cool....
...then I felt them crunching under my feet like the cockroaches in Indiana Jones and I got really freaked out and got the hell out of there.
Jaime and I went to Stella's Fish Cafe for dinner and it was awesome. We ate crab dip and coconut shrimp till we were bloated and had to roll to the car.
Afterwards we took a walk in the park and a weird girl told us to look at the moon. Glad we did because it looked really cool.
