Woke Up & Bought a House

Today I woke up at 6am, made some coffee, drove up to Beacon, and bought a HOUSE! Yahooo!

It's going to a crazy week ahead, but I'll probably post off and on since we have Thanksgiving, a friend's wedding on Friday, and tonight we'll all going to the Rusty Knot to celebrate my big purchase!

If you're in town c'mon by and dance to the debut DJ performance of Foxtails!

Brooklyn is Better, Brian.

After a few fun-filled months, Brian Ray slipped on back to LA. He'll be back though...he'll miss us too much.

We went to the bar The Woods to celebrate his last night, but we missed the memo that a tour bus was going to be dropping people off for a bar crawl. Since when does this happen in Williamsburg?

We were not interested.

So we ended up at Bar Celona and drank martinis, which was equally strange, but at least they had a fireplace.

Just a Li'l Thing

As you may know, Abe and I are moving in a little over a week. So, tonight I'm about to get on the train and remember to grab a bunch of free newspapers for packing up fragile items. I grabbed a stack of am New York papers and got on the L train.

I sat with the papers under my arm on the train and played solitaire on my iPhone. Then I transferred to get on the G train. As I walking on the platform I dropped the stack of 20 papers on the platform - one guy with headphones thought about helping me for a minute, but didn't. Anyway, I gathered them all up just as the train rolled in. When I got on the train and sat down I straightened out the stack of papers.

That was when I [finally] realized that I was freaking staring at my friend Jessica!

I'll have to wait to get more papers tomorrow because these are collectors items.

Total Tesh Fest

I dabble in a lot of things, but the one talent that never ceases to amaze and entertain Abe is that I can whistle the MLB on Fox theme song.

Tonight I was whistling it for Abe and I was like "I should learn the football one, how does that go?" and he said "You know which one you should learn, go type in [into Google] 'NBA on NBC John Tesh'."

I did this (even though I hate basketball) and thank god I did because what I found next COMPLETELY BLEW OUR MINDS.

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to behold one of the most amazing things on the Internet. The healthy heads of hair, the guitar solo, the cocky attitude, the man himself...Mr. John Tesh!

Friendsgiving

Last night was Friendsgiving over at Colleen's house. Everyone brought a dish or two and then we pigged out.

I made three Martha Stewart recipes: sauteed brussel sprouts and shallots, pecan pie, and roasted garlic mashed potatoes(follow this recipe, but first slice off the top of a bulb of garlic, drizzle with olive oil, and roast in over for 45 mins. Then squeeze garlic into potatoes after you add the milk. Oh, I also kept on the potato skins.)

Mmmm...Piper's bruschetta was pretty.

[Clockwise from 12 o'clock: sweet potato au gratin, brussel sprouts, stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potato with raisins, butternut squash lasagna, and cranberry chutney in the center.]

Piper tries to get the dance party started.

We played several games of Celebrity. Can you guess which household name I am charading?

At 2am we ate Round 2 of the food and then went home and passed out.

A Tiny Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year - a no-stress holiday, lots of delicious food & quality time with the family. Why not celebrate Thanksgiving all year round with a collection of miniature food? (You might have to do this in secret because it's going to look pretty weird to your friends.)

[from top row, left to right: Cornucopia Miniature Rustic Style Horn of Plenty , Miniature Vegetables, Basket of Fruits and Vegetables, Cutting Board - Cutting Carrots and Peeling Potatoes, Miniature Apple Pie Set, Basket of Assorted Bread and Rolls, Cheese Board, Turning Tiger Wood Coffee Table Bowl, Leeks, Pumpkins, Roast Turkey, Pine Needle Miniature Basket, Pumpkin Pie, Cherry Pie in Tin, Sliced Cherry Cheesecake]

I recently got into creating Treasuries on Etsy, but the problem is that I haven't been able to publish them because the Treasury limit is always maxed out.

I hope to still publish what I have on, but for now I'll just post here on Wicked Mint.

Upper Weird Side

Abe is back from Olympia! We celebrated with a random night on the Upper West Side (I don't know, it just happened).

I bought a cute new Fruit Treet quilt by Alexander Girard from Urban Outfitters on sale from $148 down to $69.00 and then an additional 50% off - holla! (do the kids still say holla?) so $35!!

Saw other weird things on 72nd St...

Ok, so, you have $25...are you going to practice your pranayama breathing, or are you going to double down on Dutchess Sweet Baby Trillion?

Hmmm, let's just call it a night and have some jerk General Ttso with black beans and rice, ok?

Let Freedom Ring

Thank you to all past and current military servicemen and servicewomen for doing a job I would never want to do. I'll be thinking of you on this Veterans Day.

[from top down: Golden Wing necklaceG $37.50, Patriotic Cat medallion $18.98, Patriotic Stars sun catchers $25.50, Vintage brooch magnets $25.00, Federal eagle mirror $32.00, Vintage 1949 Air Force Blue Dress Pea Coat $65.00, The Map and Airplane necklace $24.00, Vintage brass US Army belt buckle $24.00

Puppy Power!

When the days are stressful there's nothing like a couple of cute pooches to make you feel happy. I couldn't get a photo of Phoebe because she is so afraid of the camera that she hid in the house. Zeke hates the camera too, but is such a good boy that he'll sit for a couple shots.

I tried recording them wrestling, but as soon as they saw the camera they took off in opposite directions. Babies.

NYC Marathon 2009

The NYC Marathon was today - my favorite NY day of the year. Having it the day after Halloween was a little tough in the morning, but luckily Colleen and I started walking from Greenpoint to Williamsburg just in time to catch the pro runners and the wheelchair competitors. We walked all the way to N. 8th and parked ourselves for a couple hours and cheered on the runners.

Colleen's brother-in-law, Harry, was running in the race. We spotted him, screamed his name, and jumped up and down. He was able to maneuver across the street to come say a quick hello.

After all that exhausting marathon-watching we met up with Brian at Juliette and had an amazing brunch.

Just Another Saturday Night

Weird Al, Pat, Bowie, Pee-Wee, Giant Squids, Frisbee Golfer, Mr. Miyagi and the Karate Kid...I call them all my friends.
